Prudent RABALAIS was born on 6 April 1816 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³² He was baptized on 2 December 1817 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³² He died before 4 January 1842. On this date, his wife remarried to Alexis Marcotte.²⁵² Melina (Emeline) (Amelie) TASSIN and Prudent RABALAIS^251,252 were united in Civil Marriage on 13 June 1833 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.^1,633 They^{^1,633} were married on 20 November 1833 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³⁴ They^⁶³⁴ appeared in the census in 1840 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.

61. Melina (Emeline) (Amelie) TASSIN was born on 1 February 1819.⁶³⁵ She was baptized on 11 June 1820 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³⁵ She appeared in the census in 1850 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA. Her three sons from her first marriage are living with her and Alexis Marcotte. Melina was buried on 3 April 1878 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³⁶

[Note: Melina was married three times. Her 1st marriage was to Prudent Rabalais and is outlined on this page. Her 2nd marriage was to Alexis Marcotte. A marriage bond was found dated 4 January 1842 and the couple was united on the same day in a religious ceremony at St. Paul's in Mansura. Her 3rd marriage was to François Senville Gremillion on 11 December 1855 (civil marriage) in Avoyelles.]

	i.	Jean Baptiste Prudent RABALAIS was born on 24 October 1834 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³⁷ He was baptized on 20 November 1834 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.⁶³⁷ He appeared in the census in 1870 at Subdivision No. 6 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.
	ii.	Prudent RABALAIS was born about 1836. He appears on the 1850 Census with his mother and stepfather - age 14. He left Avoyelles on 26 April 1861 with the Atchafalaya Guards and was, eventually, attached to Company H of the 2nd Louisiana Regiment. On 31 January 1863, his brother, Adolphe, wrote a letter to Quartermaster in Richmond, Virigina stating that he had seen a list of names in the La. Democrat newspaper of deceased Civil War soldiers and he believed that 'P. Rabilee' was his brother, Prudent Rabalais. Adolphe stated that Prudent had left Avoyelles on 26 April 1861 with the Atchafalaya Guards and was attached to the 2nd Regiment, Company H. According to the letter, he was wounded at a battle 7 miles from Richmond in July. Adolphe requested that his effects be sent to 'Gorton's Landing Red River Avoyelles' and also that they be provided with the date of his death 'for consolation of his mother'. At the bottom of the letter, likely written by someone from the War Department, was the fact that he died on 26 July 1862. In the 17 January 1863 issue of The Avoyelles Pelican, a succession notice appears for 'Prudent Rabalais'. Adolphe P. Rabalais, his brother, was requesting that he be appointed administrator of the estate.
