Martin RABALAIS II was born on 12 December 1816 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.638 He was baptized on 7 December 1817 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.638 He appeared in the census in 1850 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA with his wife and four children. There were two other males living with the family - a 21-year-old and a 2-year old. The 2-year-old was Zeline's baby brother, Jean Baptiste Zenon Lemoine (listed as "J B Z Lemoine"). The mother of Zeline and Jean Baptiste Zenon had died in February 1849 - about 5 months after the birth of Jean Baptiste Zenon. Therefore, it appears that Zeline and her husband, Martin Rabalais, took the child in to raise as their own. The value of their real estate was $12,000. The 1850 Slave Schedule Census shows that the family owned twelve slaves. Martin appeared in the census on 23 August 1860 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA living with his wife, Zeline, and seven children (one of whom was actually Zeline's baby brother - Jean Baptiste Zenon Lemoine who was now listed as Jean Baptiste Rabalais). Their daughter, Javelie, and her husband, Adolph, were living in the household and Adolph was listed as a farm manager. The value of the real esate owned by Martin and Zeline had increased significantly in the ten years since the previous census and was now worth $70,000. By 1860, he owned forty slaves according to the Slave Census. He appeared in the census on 13 July 1870 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA. Living with Martin and his wife, Zeline, were four children in addition to three other individuals who appear to be a widow and her two children. However, five years after the end of the devastating Civil War, the family's real estate wealth was severely reduced. It was now valued at $40,000. He appeared in the census in 1880 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA with his wife and two other individuals. Martin was buried on 21 March 1900 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA. He was listed as 85 years of old. There was a diary entry in the diary of Leonce Paul Bordelon I ("Leonce Paul Bordelon Diaries") on 22 March 1900 which states that 'old Martin Rabalais' was buried on the 21 March 1900. Leonce Paul attended the funeral.639 Zeline LEMOINE and Martin RABALAIS II252 were united in Civil Marriage on 15 March 1836 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.1,640 They1,640 were married on 5 September 1840 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.641 63. She was buried on 11 December 1890 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA.642 Zeline had her estate in succession by 31 March 1892. However, although I don't have all of the documents regarding her succession, I believe that her succession was likely filed by her husband, Martin Rabalais, earlier than this. I believe it was likely filed shortly after her death and the death of their daughter, Javalie. Both Zeline and her daughter, Javalie, died within one week of each other. At the time of Javalie's death, she left minor children without parents (Javalie's husband was already deceased) and her father is the one who appears to have opened her succession.122,123 Children were:
