2660. (NOTE: The parents of Elie/Theodore Dulignon Sieur de la Mirande are speculative at this time. I also have other info that possibly indicates that his parents are Jacques Dulignon and Catherion Goix.) |Jean DULIGNON Sr. Sieur de la Mirande was baptized on 16 June 1657 in La Rochefoucauld (protestant) (Charente) (Poitou Charentes Region), France. He traveled to New France in 1670 via the "L'Hélène, de Flessingue ou Sainte-Hélène". Before leaving La Rochelle, he signed a will and declared that he was a Protestant. He was only 13 years old! Although not yet confirmed, it appears that his father was deceased by this time and this was, possibly, one of the reasons he left France. There was a "Jean Dulignon, Sieur de La Mirande" who was with Rene Robert Cavelier, Sieur de LaSalle in his voyage to the Gulf of Mexico in 1682. On 9 April 1682, Jean witnessed La Salle's burial of an engraved plate and a cross at the mouth of the Mississippi River (near Venice) at which time he claimed the territory for France. It is an accepted fact that the Jean Dulignon who was on LaSalle's voyage is the same as this person. He died before 10 May 1689 in Montréal (Québec Province), Canada.|
