Ninth Generation

382. Jean Baptiste MARCOTTE II was born on 24 July 1738 and baptized the same day at Ste-Famille in Cap-Santé (Québec Province), Canada.2831 Jean Baptiste lived at Saint-Jean-Baptiste des Allemands (now St. John the Baptist Parish) in October 1770 and he was, at that time, already married to Marguerite Trègre. He was mentioned in a civil document dated 15 October 1770 as the brother-in-law of the the minor children of the late Simon "Tregle". The family appears to still have been living at Saint-Jean-Baptiste des Allemands on 7 October 1776. On that date, there was a land sale from David Marcs (Marx) to George Himel which was bounded by the property of Widow Simon Marcs (Marx) and Jean Marcotte. He appeared in the 'Acadian Coast' census in 1777 at Acadian Coast in (St. James Parish), Louisiana, USA. He and his wife were living on the left bank of the Mississippi River with their two children: Francois, age 5 and Gennevieve, age 1. Archives of St. James Parish Church show that three children of Jean Baptiste and Marguerite were baptized there: Genevieve, Marie and Marie Meli He appeared in the 1779 "Census of the Rice and Corn That Are Found in the Barns of the Habitants Established in the Parish of Saint Jacques at Cabahannoces" (St. James Parish - Acadian Coast). He was listed as follows: "Jean Marcotte, 5 whites, 10 rice, 6 corn (quarter barrels)". On 1 December 1782, Jean Marcotte was a buyer of some of the belongings of François Descareau at Saint-Jean-Baptiste des Allemands. It is unclear if he still lived in close vicinity or if he had returned from another location to attend the sale. This is the last time, however, that his name appears in the Civil Records of St. John the Baptiste Parish (according to "Saint-Jean-Baptiste des Allemands: Abstracts of the Civil Records of St. John the Baptist Parish to 1803" ). Jean was living at Rapides Post in (Rapides Parish), Louisiana, USA by Feb. 1794 according to the 1802 baptismal record of his son, Alexis. He lived in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA in 1802. He died before 16 June 1808 in (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana, USA. Jean had his estate in succession on this date.972 Marguerite TRÈGRE and Jean Baptiste MARCOTTE II were married about 1770 in German Coast, Louisiana, USA.

Marguerite TRÈGRE was baptized on 13 June 1754 at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan (St. Charles Parish), Louisiana, USA.973 She appeared in the census in 1770 in (St. James Parish), Louisiana, USA. She appeared in the 1777 Acadian Coast census with her husband and two children. She was deceased before 19 September 1816.
